Struggle Country    Struggle Country
Edited by Graeme Davison and Marc Brodie
Monash University ePress
ISBN: 0975747525

The continuing interaction, in the twentieth century, between the dreams of the Australian countryside and the reality of its decline will be the key focus of Struggle Country: The Rural Ideal in Twentieth Century Australia. Contemporary interest in this area is often within a hopeful policy framework of the revitalisation of town and countryside. Linking history to present concerns, this edited collection of essays will look at how the dreams of progress that captured the imagination of country towns, regions, city politicians, and historians themselves, led to particular outcomes in these areas and influenced how these regions were treated.

Struggle Country will be of great interest to historians and students of Australian history, as well as to readers interested in the relationship between rural dreams and the underlying realities of rural life.
